Why remove asbestos?

Until the arrival of gypsum (or more usually called gyproc), asbestos was commonly used, especially in the 19th century, with the practices of mixing plaster during the great waves of house construction in Quebec. Although asbestos has been banned since 1985, many residents are still exposed to it in large cities or in the regions, without their knowledge.

Indeed, the renovations that occurred in the urban and central districts of most major Quebec cities, before the 60s, during which plasterboard came to replace cement and asbestos mixtures, which can be harmful to your health and that of your family.

Health consequences

Asbestos fibers are easily breathed in and transported to the lower part of the lungs. The consequences are as varied as:

pulmonary fibrosis (asbestosis)
changes in the lining of the chest cavity (pleura).
These diseases can lead to decreased respiratory function and death.
Long-term inhalation of asbestos fibers also increases the risk of lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Cardiomegaly can also manifest itself as an indirect effect of increased resistance of blood flow in the lungs.

    Fibres and asbestos removal

    The asbestos fibers in old plaster are often recirculated in the running air of your home, and therefore, the one your family breathes. Despite the lack of notoriety of this case, the courts ruled that the costs of decontamination were borne by the seller for latent defect. In this 2005 judgment, the court recognized that the asbestos problem was not legislated at the time of the transaction, until the 2000s.

    Strict standards
